Agenda: Clarification and guideline on membership of Newa Guthi

Discussion:

The General Secretary presented Bylaws and Certificate of Incorporation presented to the board and explained following clauses to define, simplify and more transparent on membership issues:

1.   Certificate of Incorporation of Newa Guthi registered before New York State and Office of the Attorney General, New York States describes about "Newa Guthi" Paragraph THIRD that "Newa" is a Nepal Bhasa (Newari Language) speaking community of Nepal who belongs to rich heritage of art, culture, tradition along with own scripts and language and "Guthi" is an organized group of individuals to execute mission for good cause in Newari Language (Nepal Bhasa).

2.   Further, the purpose of the corporation is described on the Certificate of Incorporation of Newa Guthi, paragraph FOURTH that "To accumulate all Newa Community members living in different parts of the United States in one umbrella as one family and promote newari culture and tradition.

To achieve objectives and perform activities of Newa Guthi, Bylaws of Newa Guthi has described following provisions:

3.   Article IV Section 1 of Bylaws authorizes the Board of Directors of Newa Guthi to create membership categories, determine eligibility and fees.

4.   Article IV Section 1 a. describes Life & General Member is the community member, above eighteen or above and subscribes to aims and objectives of the Guthi, agrees to uphold and abide the Guthi's bylaws.  

5.   Article IV Section b. describes an Associate Member is the community member who is in the United States for a short term or on visitor visa without voting rights.

Upon motion duly made seconded and unanimously approved.

1. It was resolved that based on the norms and objective of the Certificate of Incorporation and bylaws of the Newa Guthi, "the community member" is a member who belongs to the Newa community from Nepal residing in the United States.

2. A spouse belonging to the Newa community, whether they bear the Newa surname of their partner or retain their own original Newa surname, is regarded as a member of the Newa Community.

3. It was resolved that The Election Committee and The Membership Verification and Approval Committee of Newa Guthi may also, refer the publication आदिवासी जनजातिका थरहरु  of Indigenous Nationalities Commission, Nepal dated July 28, 2023 to determine Newa community member.

 There being no further business to come before the meeting, upon motion duly made seconded and unanimously adopted, the meeting was adjourned.
